High school is a time to develop yourself as a person, develop your moral integrity, your sense of self. There are ample opportunities to try new things during this time in your life, both through your high school and community. This is a great time to spend your time volunteering, participating on sports teams, and taking on a leadership role in clubs or student government.

It is also essential that at this time you get excellent grades to ensure you can take the courses you want in university. If you read over the Canadian Medical Schools section, you will find what University courses are needed to apply to medical school. To be eligible to take these courses at a university, you will generally need to take and get good grades in grade 12 biology, chemistry, calculus, physics and English. You should speak to your guidance councillor and look through university course calendars to find out exactly which high school courses you should take. Look through the Doctor Develop Thyself section to see if there are any opportunities that interests you. This is a time not to focus so much on one particular aspect of achievement, but rather develop yourself into a well rounded, grounded individual with a sense of purpose. Speak to your guidance councillor about universities programs that may be well suited to you.
