Medicine is an extremely rewarding profession. The job of a physician is not as simple as using science to solve problems related to physical illness. As a physician you need to be able to appreciate the very human interaction you are having with a person in a state of vulnerability, and use your excellent communication skills to find a medical solution that fits with your patients reality. Understanding human physiology is only one component of “doctoring”. Illness and health are both complex phenomena that are influenced not only by pathogens, trauma and inflammation, but are always beautifully muddled by culture, expectations, lifestyle, access to education, socioeconomic status, belief systems, emotions and personality. As a doctor, you have the amazing task of learning not only the science behind a state of health or illness, but the human factors that play a major role in how that state was achieved, experienced, or prevented.

Here you have an opportunity to learn about the ups and downs of life as a doctor. Many aspects of medicine are quite stressful, and doctors are by no means immune to this stress. Browse through interviews with current medical students and doctors, and read about research into the health and stresses of those studying medicine.
